The Kasumi Masterpiece Japanese knives are true pieces of art. Indeed, made in Seki in Japan (the capital of cutlery), they will show you to what extent the Japanese expertise in cutlery no longer needs proving. Originally manufactured using ancient techniques belonging to Japanese heritage, these knives will take you to a whole new world of quality that you’ve never experiences before in your kitchen!
Proving the excellence of these knives, this Kasumi Masterpiece Chef Knife will surely become one of your most indispensable tools in the kitchen. Thanks to the care given to each stage of its design, you will enjoy a very powerful blade, respecting ancestral techniques directly resulting from the creation of the katana (which is no small claim).
This knife is perfect for cutting, mincing, and dicing a great variety of foods, being thus an ultra polyvalent kitchen utensil. Below, we explain you the 5 different steps made by the hand of several renowned craftsmen to make this knife so remarkable:
1- The forging of the blade, done by a craftsman who is from the 25th generation of a long line of blacksmiths
2- The first manual sharpening is then carried out by a craftsman who has worked for more than 30 years as a master cutler,
3- The second sharpening with water is performed by one of Japan’s most renowned craftsmen,
4- Damascene, a very detailed step by a craftsman trained by his father, who was in turn a recognized specialist throughout Japan. He uses the technique called “halo” to realize this damask. The pattern is thus finer, which allows the blade’s thread to be harder, hence sharper.
5- Finally, the creation of the handle is carried out by a craftsman with more than 40 years of experience in the field, and who is specialized in the creation of Masterpiece handles.
It is important to mention that the blade has a 1% VG10 carbon steel core, which was then supplemented with 32 layers of hard and soft steel alternately applied to this core. The result is a damask blade that is both effective and very aesthetic. It has been polished with a very fine grain (about # 3000) to give you a razor-sharp edge that lasts over long periods of time.
The handle is made of micarta, a composite material which is very resistant to moisture and heat. It is made from fabric and resin compressed under high pressure. Additionally, the handle has two rivets that make it even more solid. The way in which this beautiful handle matches with the impressive blade makes this knife a unique piece of collection!
