The knives
Made of Japanese AUS-8 stainless steel, the blades are resistant to corrosion, which is a characteristic that is highly appreciated by both professional and home cooks. Each blade has a V-shaped edge that is manually sharpened by hand on a leather grinding band, which is why your knives are ready to cut right out of the box.
The steel is enriched with tungsten and carbon (0.8%), and this enables the blades to reach a hardness level of 59 HRC in the Rockwell scale. With this level of hardness, the blades are easy to hone, which is not the case for most blades made of other types of Japanese steel.
Last but not least, the surface of the blades is hammered by a press. The dimples that are formed on the surface make the blades less sticky for the foods when they are being cut. Furthermore, the hammered surface also give the knives an original look that can’t be ignored.
The handles are made of ebony wood, which is characterised for its beautiful dark tones and their durability. This material is mostly used for high-end knives and other luxurious products (such as in furniture), thus you can be sure that the handles of these knives are truly special.
Each handle is varnished to enhance the wood’s resistance to humidity. Their oval design provides a comfortable grip for both right and left handed cooks. The bottom end of each handle has the Japanese character “Tiger” engraved on it, which is just another original detail that embellishes the overall look of the knives.
Another important characteristic of this set is its top-quality packaging. Indeed, it comes in a black, robust box that is quite elegant, and it is filled with rigid foam so that the knives can remain well protected at all times. This makes the set a great option to offer as a gift.
Maintenance tips: wash them by hand with a sponge and a bit of mild soap. Wipe them well after washing them so that no humidity traces appear on them once they dry up. Then, store them in a safe, dry place such as in a knife block or a in a chef roll bag.
The first time that you’ll take the knives out of the bag, the blades will be covered with a bit of protection oil. This is completely normal, and all you need to do is to rinse them off before the first usage.
The roll bag
Made of black polyester, it is thick enough to guarantee the safety of the knives stored inside, and at the same time, it is also lightweight enough to let you carry it around in all comfort. It is perfect for chefs on the go and students in culinary schools.
Even though the set only comes with 5 knives, the roll bag has space to store up to 9 knives and accessories. The bag is large enough to store knives with a maximum blade length of 29cm. The blades are protected by an internal flap that covers them after being attached with the hook-and-loop fastener available inside the bag.
The bag also has 2 additional pockets where you can store other accessories such as phone chargers or small recipe books. When the bag is open, it measures 48 x 60cm, and when it is closed, it measures 12 x 48.5cm.
